Bříza & Trubač obtains a $3.8 mil award in LCIA arbitration
Bříza & Trubač has just obtained a $3.8 mil arbitral award in favour of its client in the LCIA (London Court of International Arbitration) arbitration seated in London, UK.
The arbitration arose over a complex dispute involving a cross-border oil transaction. The B&T arbitration team led by Petr Bříza had to deal with various legal issues concerning three different legal orders.
The award stands out not only for there are very few law firms in the Czech Republic that get to try a case in a prestigious arbitral institution such as the LCIA, but this achievement of the B&T lawyers is noteworthy also for the fact that the tribunal has awarded over $1.5 mil for contractual penalty (liquidation damages) claim, i.e., almost as much as was the original damage itself.
The B&T's reputation in the field of international arbitration and dedication towards delivering results for its clients has been repeatedly highlighted, including most recently a publication on international arbitration in Global Legal Insights (to be published in May 2016, chapter on the Czech Republic authored by Petr Bříza and Tomáš Hokr of B&T).
